We opened our Riyadh office shortly after reforms allowed full foreign ownership of businesses, a move that enabled us to operate independently and build meaningful partnerships on the ground. Balancing design thinking with on-site experience

One of our biggest strengths at CJC is the way we blend perspectives. Many of us come from contractor backgrounds, and we understand the realities of delivering on site. That practical mindset means we’re always thinking about constructability, sequencing, and the real-world impact of decisions made at a desk.

I often joke that part of my role is balancing the “design nerds” with the “blokey site guys” and the “client suit and ties”, but it’s true. Good engineering comes from collaboration, not silos. And when your team shares a common language of lived project experience, that collaboration is easier, faster, and more effective.

In an industry where productivity gains have historically lagged other sectors, this collaborative, delivery-first mindset matters. According to the Australian Constructors Association, construction productivity has declined by 16.5% since the peak of the resources boom in 2014, with an estimated opportunity cost of $47 billion in FY2021 alone. Much of that hinges on smarter decision-making from concept through to completion. Tech where it counts. People where it matters most.

We employ digital tools where they add value; to collaborate, track, and streamline. From 3D visualisations and site digitisation to advanced BIM and digital engineering, we leverage technology to enhance project understanding, mitigate risks, and boost productivity throughout the entire project lifecycle.

But technology alone isn’t the answer.

Despite the challenges – like rising material costs and interruptions in the supply chain – there’s room for optimism. We’re learning that with the right approach, we can improve how we deliver major projects. It’s about precision in planning, being realistic, and managing risks well.

And technology? It’s a game-changer. We’re seeing more mobile tech, AI, automation and data analytics in construction. These aren’t just gadgets; they’re tools that can make us more efficient, inform our decisions and help us build smarter.

Sustainability and diversity are also at the forefront of our industry’s evolution. It’s about building
with an eye on the environment and ensuring our teams reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. This isn’t just good ethics; it’s good business.

So, what’s our vision for the future? Colin Calder sums it up perfectly: “Our goal is to look beyond the conventional boundaries of infrastructure development. To add a dynamic touch to the afternoon, we facilitated a Mentor’s Walk, a popular activity that allowed for a mutual exchange of experiences and advice, ultimately strengthening our team’s relationships. After the Mentor Walk, we came back all together to our head office in North Sydney. Reflecting on the past three months, our Managing Director, Michael Eager, presented the company wins, project updates and KPI’s from the past quarter and the company goals for the upcoming one.

As part of our Employee Appreciation Program, we had a special moment to celebrate the team member who joined our 5-year Club. Our success story wouldn’t be complete without the unwavering loyalty of our team.
