Overview
Parkes Regional Airport is a vital hub for regional connectivity in New South Wales, supporting not only passenger services and small freight items, but also as support to critical services such as emergency response, aeromedical operations, and disaster resilience. CJC partnered with Parkes Shire Council to develop a long-term Master Plan and 10-Year Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) strategy to guide the airport’s future development and ensure it continues to meet the evolving needs of the region.
CJC’s Role
CJC undertook end-to-end execution of the 20-year Master plan and associated 5,10 and 20-year CAPEX plans to set a long-term growth framework, assess current infrastructure, forecast future demand and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and grow regional connectivity.
The Master Plan delivers a clear, staged development pathway that:
- Supports larger aircraft and increased flight activity
- Enhances terminal capacity, safety systems and passenger amenity
- Enables continued support for aeromedical services, firefighting aircraft and emergency logistics
- Aligns with regional growth strategies including the Parkes Special Activation Precinct
- Reflects community needs and aspirations through inclusive engagement processes
Project Impact
By strengthening infrastructure and planning, the project enhances Parkes’ capacity to serve as a key economic and community asset. With the airport now better positioned to accommodate tourism, business travel, emergency services and freight, the Master Plan sets a foundation for future funding, improved service delivery, and long-term regional resilience.
CJC’s work has also contributed to broader council efforts to market Parkes as a connected, investment-ready location, reinforcing the airport’s role in the visitor economy and local development.
