Overview
CJC Management Services developed and delivered the structural design and documentation for the new Bluff Bridge over the Orara River. This project replaces the existing timber road bridge that was built in circa 1905 and is nearing the end of its service life, which was prone to frequent flooding, with a modern Super T-Girder concrete bridge structure elevated approximately eight metres higher to enhance flood resilience and provide safer connectivity for the crossing of the Orara River near Lanitza (approximately 30km south of Grafton).
Scope of Works
- Structural design compliant with AS5100-2017
- Optimisation of Super T-Girder design
- Compliance with SM1600 and HLP loading standards
- Delivery of IFC documentation within a compressed 5-month timeline
Outcomes
- Bridge deck elevated by approximately 8 metres to improve flood immunity
- Enhanced access for freight and emergency services during adverse weather
- Reduced maintenance requirements for Clarence Valley Council
- Strengthened disaster resilience across the regional transport network
- Timely commencement of construction in early 2025
Project Impact
The new Bluff Bridge provides improved access for residents, freight, and emergency services, significantly reducing the community’s isolation during flood events.
This project exemplifies CJC's commitment to delivering resilient infrastructure solutions that keep communities connected and supported.
