Scope

RMS (now TfNSW) upgraded the existing electrical supply and utilities within the Mascot Tunnel complex along General Holmes Drive, underneath the Sydney Airport north-south runway and taxiways. The upgrade consists of works on both eastbound and westbound tunnels.

CJC role

RMS engaged CJC to undertake a constructability assessment on three concept design options for the upgrade of electrical components and utilities within the tunnels under Sydney Airport runways at Mascot.

The constructability assessment included developing detailed construction method statements, construction staging, a construction program and traffic management measures. Three design options were provided and assessed including:

1) Directly replacing/upgrading the existing electrical components and other utilities. 2) Constructing two new substations on the eastern and western side of the tunnel along with the upgrade of other utilities. 3) Constructing a single substation on the western side of the tunnel, along with the upgrade of other utilities.
